Living in a studio apartment can be physically limiting, but that shouldn’t get in the way of your imagination. What you can or cannot do with your living room design is entirely up to you. In fact, if you want to turn your living room into the beachfront property, you can. If you already have an aquarium, you can take advantage of it and make it a theme. A potted palm is surprisingly cheap and looks great indoors. If you lay a large part of the artificial turf, the effect of the tree increases tenfold. A huge backdrop in the form of a beach painting transforms your studio into a tropical retreat. By the way, you don’t have to spend a thousand dollars on painting in an art store. A search of local thrift stores usually finds some wonderful paintings, photos, or prints for up to twenty dollars. If you want to do anything about that beach theme, you can add a small wading pool for kids. Every quarter, fill
it with water and put playing sand in the center to form a sandbar. Put a bucket of colored sand on top for an extra touch. One of the advantages of designing a living room in a studio is that you can paint the apartment or in a day. If you’re lucky enough to have hardwood floors why not go for the Stockholm look? Paint three of the walls and the eggshell on the ceiling white. Apply a brown or taupe wallpaper to the fourth wall. Add curtains with a similar design to the wallpaper. A matte, circular straw in the middle of the bottom, and a large floor vase with dried flowers complete the look. By the way, it’s a great design for a room divider. In most cases, simple elegance gives an apartment studio a sense of charm and space. You can paint the old lace into your centerpiece and put a white sheepskin rug on it. A handsome little dining set works well. You don’t have to buy a Hans Wegner set. A
simple, well-polished oak table with matching chairs works great, especially if you garnish it with large white candles. A clock with Roman numerals is great for this setting, as is a booth with wildflowers. If the living room is designed properly, your studio will be a place people want to visit. It doesn’t have to be a stopover for guests looking to go elsewhere. If you use your creative side, your studio may only be the envy of envious people with spacious homes and bigger budgets.
